What Is A Turbo Engine Intercooler? | Inter Cooler For Diesel Engine
What is a turbo engine intercooler?
An intercooler is a gas cooling device, used in turbocharged engines. The air compressed from the impellers of the compressor blades raises the temperature and pressure. Now, although high inlet pressures are required in a forced induction engine, high temperatures are not. This occurs because when air is heated, its specific heat increases and its density decreases. These two reasons lead to the low quality of the air-fuel mixture introduced in SI engines and the low quality of the air in the auction stroke of CI engines. Now, low density means low fuel and air mixture combustion, which reduces volumetric efficiency. In addition, the increased specific heat increases the exhaust heat and reduces the work output. To overcome this disadvantage of forced induction turbocharged and mechanically charged engines, intercoolers are provided between the turbocharger and the impotent manifold used to cool the air and increase its density.
