Hydro Electric Generator Air Coolers

Hydro‑electric generator air coolers are critical heat‑exchange components mounted around the stator frame of hydro generators. They cool hot circulating air inside the closed generator ventilation loop, removing heat from stator windings, rotor poles and iron core, keeping winding temperature within IEC limits and protecting generator insulation life.

Multiple coolers are installed in modular horizontal arrangement around generator stator. Custom built per drawings or as direct replacement for old existing units, no major generator modification required.

Working Principle

1. Generator built‑in fans push hot air from windings across fin‑tube bundles.

2. Heat transfers from hot air to cooling water flowing inside tubes.

3. Cooled air circulates back into generator enclosure.

4. Heat is carried away by plant cooling‑water circuit.

Key Features

- Closed air circulation: keeps dust and moisture out of generator interior.

- Anti‑vibration design for long‑term hydro‑plant continuous operation.

- Strict hydrostatic leak test, prevent water leakage into generator air chamber.

- Low air‑side & water‑side pressure drop.

- Custom cooling capacity, dimension, flange position to match original equipment.

- Both new‑build and aftermarket replacement solutions for small‑medium to large hydro units.

Typical Application

- Run‑of‑river hydropower stations

- Reservoir hydro plants

- Pumped‑storage power plants

- Vertical / horizontal hydro generators of various MVA ranges
