How to choose shell and tube heat exchanger shell?

E-type shell: It is a one-way shell, which is generally preferred in the design process. It is suitable for all situations, and the single-phase heat transfer is better, but the disadvantage is that the pressure drop is relatively large.

F-type shell: It is suitable for the situation where the site is limited and double shells are required. It is more suitable for single-phase heat exchange, pure countercurrent heat exchange, and large heat transfer temperature difference; the disadvantage is that the F-type shell has split-pass partitions, here Leakage will occur, and the pressure difference and temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the shell side are the largest, temperature leakage will occur, and the split-pass partition is also prone to deformation. Therefore, the F-type shell is suitable for situations where the pressure difference and temperature difference are not large.

G-type shell: It belongs to the parallel flow heat exchanger. The outlet temperature of the hot fluid of the heat exchanger can be lower than that of the cold fluid outlet. It is suitable for horizontal thermosiphon reboilers and condensers that need to be strengthened on the shell side.

H-shaped shell: double parallel flow heat exchanger, mainly used for condensation and evaporation, and no baffles are used in the shell. The advantage of the G/H type shell is that the heat transfer temperature difference is large, which is higher than that of the E type.

J-type shell: shunt shell, one is suitable for the situation where the gas phase pressure drop of the shell is large and vibration cannot solve it; the other is used for reboiler, which makes the heat transfer effect more stable compared with E-type; the third is used In the case of partial condensation, the disadvantage is that the heat transfer temperature difference is small and the heat transfer coefficient is not large. K-type shell: mainly used for tube-side heat medium and shell-side evaporation, and used under the condition of waste heat recovery.

X-shaped shell: hot and cold fluids belong to cross-flow flow, and its advantage is that the pressure drop is very small. When other shells are used to vibrate, and the vibration cannot be eliminated by adjusting the parameters of the heat exchanger, this shell form can be used. Its disadvantages The disadvantage is that the fluid distribution is not uniform, and the X-shaped shell is not often used.
