Cu-Ni Gearbox Coolers Tube Shell Coolers in A Cu-Ni Combination For Gearbox Applications
Shell and tube cooler adopts copper‑nickel (Cu‑Ni) tube bundle matched with carbon steel or stainless steel shell, specially built for gearbox lube‑oil cooling service. The Cu‑Ni combination delivers superior seawater and brackish‑water corrosion resistance, which makes it the preferred cooling solution for marine, offshore and coastal gearbox systems. VRCOOLER provides custom‑built units and drop‑in replacement coolers, manufactured per customer drawings or original equipment dimensions.
Working Principle
Hot lubricating oil from the gearbox circulates on the shell side. Cooling seawater or raw water flows inside the Cu‑Ni tubes. Heat is transferred from high‑temperature lube oil to cooling medium, stabilizing gearbox operating oil temperature, protecting gears and bearings from overheating damage.
Key Features of Cu‑Ni Combination Design
Tube material: Cu‑Ni C70600 / C71500 copper‑nickel alloy, high resistance to seawater corrosion, erosion and bio‑fouling
Shell material: carbon steel or stainless steel for option, cost‑effective Cu‑Ni combination without full unit high‑alloy cost
Removable tube bundle for inspection, chemical cleaning and maintenance
Heavy‑duty construction for continuous 24‑hour gearbox operation
Custom flange connections, design pressure and thermal capacity; support 1:1 replacement against old coolers
Good anti‑vibration performance to fit vessel and offshore working conditions
Application Scope
Marine main gearbox, auxiliary gearbox on ships
Offshore platform gear transmission units
Coastal power plant gearbox lube oil cooling
Heavy‑duty industrial gearboxes using seawater / estuary water as cooling source
