Tubular Oil Heat Exchanger For Engine On A Motorboat
tubular oil heat exchanger for 190-kilowatt engine.
The engine mounted on motorboat.

A tubular oil heat exchanger for an engine on a motorboat is a device used to cool the engine oil. It transfers heat from the engine oil to another fluid, typically the surrounding water in which the boat is operating. This helps in maintaining the engine oil at the optimal temperature for proper lubrication and performance.
Components of a Tubular Oil Heat Exchanger:
Tubular Heat Exchanger Unit:
The main component of the system, consisting of a series of tubes through which the engine oil flows. These tubes are often arranged in a bundle to maximize the surface area available for heat transfer.
Shell:
The outer casing or shell that contains the tube bundle and serves as a housing for the heat exchanger.
End Caps:
Covers at each end of the shell to seal the unit and direct the flow of fluids.
Inlet and Outlet Ports:
Points where the engine oil enters and exits the heat exchanger. The oil flows through the tubes while exchanging heat with the surrounding water.
Coolant Inlet and Outlet Ports:
Points where the coolant (typically seawater or freshwater from the boat's cooling system) enters and exits the heat exchanger. The coolant flows around the tubes to absorb heat from the engine oil.
Baffles:
Internal components designed to direct the flow of the coolant and enhance heat transfer efficiency.
Mounting Brackets:
Attachments for securing the heat exchanger unit to the motorboat's engine or hull.
Working Principle:
Engine Oil Circulation:
The engine oil is pumped from the engine through the inlet port into the tubular heat exchanger.
Heat Transfer:
As the engine oil flows through the tubes, it releases heat to the surrounding water flowing around the tubes. This transfers heat from the oil to the water.
Coolant Circulation:
The coolant, usually seawater or freshwater, is pumped into the heat exchanger through the coolant inlet port.
Cooling the Oil:
The coolant absorbs the heat from the engine oil as it passes around the tubes. This cools down the engine oil to the desired operating temperature.
Exit of Cooled Oil and Coolant:
The now cooled engine oil exits the heat exchanger through the outlet port and returns to the engine for lubrication.
The heated coolant exits the heat exchanger through the coolant outlet port and is usually discharged back into the surrounding water.
