Reduce the temperature of intake air: the temperature of exhaust gas discharged from the locomotive engine is very high, and the supercharger will further increase the temperature of intake air when it is working. Cooling the supercharged air through the intercooler can effectively reduce the intake air temperature, avoiding the high temperature air into the engine leading to high combustion temperature, vibration and other problems, and also reduce the NOx content in the engine exhaust gas, reducing air pollution.
Improve the filling efficiency: the air is compressed, the temperature rises, the density becomes smaller, the density of the cooled air increases, which improves the filling efficiency of the engine, so that more air can enter the cylinder to participate in the combustion, which in turn improves the power of the engine. Some data show that in the same air-fuel ratio conditions, the temperature of the pressurized air every 10 ℃ down, the engine power can be increased by 3% to 5%.
Reduce engine fuel consumption: Due to the improved filling efficiency, the fuel can be more fully combusted, so that the fuel utilization of the engine is improved, thus reducing fuel consumption.
Improvement of supercharger matching and adaptability: it helps optimize the matching between supercharger and engine, so that the supercharger can work better under different working conditions, improving the adaptability and stability of the whole power system.
