Dry Cooler For The HT And LT Loops Of Generator
A dry cooler (remote radiator) for generator HT (High Temperature) and LT (Low Temperature) loops is a dual-circuit, air-cooled heat exchanger. It rejects heat from the engine's jacket water (HT) and charge air/lube oil (LT) via forced ambient air, without water spray or evaporation.
HT vs. LT Loops: What They Cool
HT Loop (High Temperature)
Cools: Engine jacket, cylinder head, engine block
Fluid: Water/glycol
Typical temps: 87–93°C (in) / 75–85°C (out)
Heat load: ~60–70% of total rejection
LT Loop (Low Temperature)
Cools: Aftercooler (intercooler), lube oil, generator stator
Fluid: Water/glycol
Typical temps: 40–50°C (in) / 60–67°C (out)
Heat load: ~30–40% of total rejection
Dry Cooler Working Principle
Tube side: HT and LT water/glycol flow through separate coil circuits (no mixing).
Fin side: Axial fans force ambient air over finned tubes (Cu/Al or All-Al).
Heat transfer: Sensible heat only (no evaporation), so zero water consumption.
Control: VFD fans + thermostatic bypass valves maintain strict setpoints for HT/LT outlet temps.
Why Dry Cooler for HT/LT Genset Cooling
✅ Dual-circuit design: Handles HT and LT loops independently with precise temp control.
✅ Zero water use: Ideal for water-scarce areas (desert, remote sites).
✅ Remote installation: Place outdoors/rooftop; genset indoors (saves 30–40% plant space).
✅ High ambient tolerance: Maintains full power at 45°C+ (better than engine-mounted radiators).
✅ Low noise: Fans away from genset; reduces room noise by 15–20 dBA.
✅ Low maintenance: No spray nozzles, fill, or water treatment; easy coil cleaning.
