Cooling Of The Oil Used in The Guide And Thrust Bearings Of Turbine And Generator
Cooling of the Oil Used in the Guide and Thrust Bearings of Turbine and Generator
Purpose of Guide & Thrust Bearing Oil Coolers
These coolers ensure:
Temperature Control – Prevent overheating of bearing oil, which could lead to:
Reduced oil viscosity → Poor lubrication → Bearing wear/failure.
Thermal expansion → Misalignment → Damage to turbine/generator shafts.
Protection of Thrust Bearings – Thrust bearings handle axial loads from propeller/turbine forces; cooling prevents thermal distortion & failure.
Stable Generator Operation – Overheated generator bearings can cause vibration, insulation breakdown, or even rotor seizure.
