Air Cooler For Hydrogen Generation System

Air Cooler For Hydrogen Generation System

Hydrogen generation systems (e.g. hydrogen from water electrolysis, hydrogen from natural gas reforming, hydrogen from methanol cracking, etc.) operate with a large amount of exothermic heat:

In the case of hydrogen from water electrolysis, the operating temperature of the electrolyzer is usually 60-90°C (alkaline electrolysis) or 80-100°C (PEM electrolysis), and the electrolyte or electrolyzer body needs to be cooled;

In the case of hydrogen from natural gas reforming, the high-temperature mixture after the reforming reaction (approx. 800-900°C) needs to be cooled down to a temperature suitable for subsequent purification (e.g., PSA purification) (usually <40°C);

The operation of auxiliary equipment (e.g., compressors. pumps) also generates heat, Auxiliary equipment (e.g. compressors, pumps) also generates heat during operation and requires cooling of the lubricating oil or working medium.

Air coolers remove heat by air convection and are widely used in small and medium-sized hydrogen plants, distributed hydrogen stations and mobile hydrogen plants (e.g. hydrogen forklift trucks with hydrogen generators), especially where water is scarce or water-cooled piping is not feasible.

Advantages

No cooling water required: relies on air as the cooling medium, suitable for arid areas, outdoor equipment or mobile scenarios, avoiding the costs of piping and water treatment (anti-scaling) for water-cooled systems.

Easy maintenance: no risk of cooling water leakage, routine maintenance is based on cleaning the fins (to prevent dust / debris from clogging), checking the fan, and the failure rate is lower than water-cooled equipment.
